Dr. Zhao received her Ph.D. in Physical Electronics from the Harbin Institute of Technology School of Aeronautics and then she has been working as a research scientist at the Medical College of Georgia where her research has extend to biomedical engineering. She is well positioned to practice in areas including, but not limited to electrical engineering, communication systems, optical devices and systems, computer science, software engineering. Dr. Zhao has published over 21 articles in prestigious journals and 1 book chapter. 

Dr. Zhao is an expert in laser communication system and vital-sign monitoring technology. Dr. Zhao has initiated and successfully led several Research & Technology Cooperation projects between Medical College of Georgia and Chinese institutions. She has also been served as a deputy chief technology officer at a Chinese startup company. She has hands-on experience in innovative product development. She is named inventor on 9 patents with 2 more pending.
